NICE boosts support for innovative ideas

NICE becomes responsible for the Health Technologies Adoption Programme from May 2013 with funding from NHS England to improve NHS’s uptake of new technologies, such as diagnostic and monitoring devices to improve the care given to patients.
QNI/Burdett Trust Fund for Innovation and Leadership 2014

This programme aims to achieve sustainable innovation in services and a new cohort of confident nurse leaders for the future. Grants of up to £5,000 are available for your local project that improves the care of patients and enhances the leadership skills of nurses. Apply by 7 October 2013.
The Innovation Fund worth £14 million opens for applications

Launched in April 2013, this fund is looking for innovative ventures and programmes that use social action to achieve impact in four areas of ageing well; long-term health; young people and impact volunteering. These priorities are expected to be open for applications until the end of October 2013.
Community nurses innovate to improve patient care projects for 2013

The Queen’s Nursing Institute announced details of the ten new nurse-led projects it will support during 2013 as part of their Fund for Innovation and Leadership programme. Bringing together a group of nurses each year, the year-long programme aims to test new ideas and improve care delivered by nurses, allied health professionals and their teams in the community.

Nurses to lead frontline campaign to cut alcohol related injuries in Wales

The ‘Have a Word’ campaign will train nurses in Wales to screen patients for alcohol misuse and deliver brief interventions for those patients identified as drinking at hazardous levels, becoming a routine part of nursing practices in Wales.
Thirty teams put their healthcare innovations to the test

The teams will develop and test their approaches, put their ideas into practice and gather evidence about what works and what does not.

The journal club will be particularly useful for postgraduate students wanting to develop their critical appraisal skills. Articles and questions will be posted on the Evidence-Based Nursing blog with discussions using Twitter. The first one is on childhood obesity in the developing world, tweeting on it takes place 17 to 21 January 2013.
