Connecting Nurses announces the Care Challenge innovation award winners
Twenty nurses from across the world won awards for their outstanding innovations offering the recipients an opportunity to develop their project and to communicate it globally. The UK winner, Jacquie Brodie, received her award for making improvements in communications on her 30-bed NHS ward.
Care Challenge is part of the Connecting Nurses program, an international initiative to champion the extraordinary accomplishments of nurses and health care professionals all over the world though highlighting innovative nurses and their care solutions.
The winning initiatives were selected for their potential to have a real impact on prevention, health and nurses’ own development. The RCN’s alliance, the International Council of Nurses is a charter member of the Connecting Nurses steering committee and participant in the independent Care Challenge adjudication process.
The winners are:

- Alvin Cloyd Dakis, Philippines: pod.RN (The Nurses' Podcast Project)
- Marilyn Wideman, USA: Prenatal & Postparthum health center for at risk pregnant and parenting youth
- Patty Hewson, USA: HIV Education and support for orphans and their caretakers in Cameroon
- Jose Cote, Canada: Living with a chronic disease : VIH- TAVIE - a virtual support for nurses
- Youhoyère Josiane Koudou, Ivory Coast: Worker involvement into the support of hypertension and diabetes in the workplace
- Ibe Chinomnso Traffine, Nigeria: Let’s save our mothers
- Micheline Quesnel-Deshayes, France: Volunteer patients involvement in following the education of diabetics
- Latifa Alahiane, Morocco: Implementation of a nursing accompanying system for patients at the diagnosis of cancer
- Ralueke Ekezie, Nigeria: Home care nursing services
- Mark White, Ireland: Integrating epilepsy care in Ireland through advanced nurse practice
- Nkwan Jacob Gobte, Cameroon: Using local technology and resources to promote infection prevention in Banso Baptist Hospital
- Hicham Hilali, Morocco: Nurse assistance for women who underwent mastectomy due to breast cancer
- Michael Joseph Dino, Philippines: Research-based community telehealth centres for sustainable elderly empowerment

- Mireia Artola Ramon, Spain: Proper reading can make life better – the importance of reading food labels
