Hospice nurses are reaching out to marginalised groups
In October 2012, Help the Hospices published the learning from a highly successful programme funded by the Burdett Trust for Nursing. The report highlights how 26 hospices across the UK have risen to the challenge and opened their doors wider to individuals, groups and communities previously under-represented in their patient profile.
The programme supports innovative nurse-led projects that aim to develop or enhance the leadership abilities of individuals and the nursing profession while making a positive impact on patient and family care offered through hospices. Nurses used grants from the Burdett Trust for Nursing to improve access for people with long-term illnesses, dementia, learning disabilities and reaching marginalised groups such as ethnic minorities and people affected by homelessness.
