Thirty teams put their healthcare innovations to the test
Selected for the Health Foundation’s Shine 2012 programme, these innovative ideas to improve the quality of healthcare from across the UK are underway for 2013 to 2014. The project teams will test new approaches to support patients as active partners in their own care, or improve patient safety or improve quality while reducing costs.
The teams will have to demonstrate the practicality of their ideas, show that they can improve quality, and reduce costs with the potential to have high impact when scaled up across the UK. The aim is to share and promote the most effective innovations to the clinical and managerial leaders of the UK healthcare system and policy-makers.
Over 15 months, the teams will develop and test their approaches, put their ideas into practice and gather evidence about what works and what does not. Each team receives £75,000 of funding and a package of support from the Health Foundation.
The Shine teams come from a wide range of settings, spanning NHS, private and voluntary sector providers, some including partnerships with other types of organisations, including universities, consultancies and innovation intermediaries. The project ideas are broadly themed by:
- Innovations to improve systems
- Innovations to improve clinical interventions
- Innovations to improve paediatric and antenatal care
- Innovations to improve patient safety
- Innovations to improve care for people with long-term conditions
