REF research policy final criteria issued January 2012
The Higher Education Funding Council for England has published the final criteria and working methods for the Research Excellence Framework, allowing universities to start preparing for submissions by 29 November 2013. Universities will be allowed to apply for longer-term research outputs to be double-weighted, and researchers taking maternity leave can submit one fewer output regardless of the amount of time taken off.
The REF main and sub-panels will assess submissions during 2014, and results will be published in December 2014. The results will inform the allocation of research funding by the UK higher education funding bodies, from 2015-16.
