WHO QualityRights Project to act, unite and empower for better mental health
Download a tool kit devised by the World Health Organization to support countries, health care staff and service users improve quality of care and human rights conditions in all mental health and social care facilities.
Launched in June 2012. the tool kit addresses care quality and human rights in inpatient, outpatient and community facilities and the WHO believes implementation will lead to a number of positive changes including:
- The creation of safe and hygienic living conditions in facilities and also a social environment that is conducive to recovery
- The implementation of evidence based care for both mental and physical health problems, and on the basis of free and informed consent, rather than on coercion
- Treatment practices that enhance people’s autonomy to engage in their own recovery plans
- Improved support to help people find work, get an education, and access social benefits and housing services
- Finally, it will put an end to inhuman and degrading treatment practices that are so pervasive throughout the world
