Aim

To develop a coordinated, strategic approach to the use and dissemination of research knowledge in policy and practice for RCN members/staff

Terms of reference

  • To clarify the group’s purpose
  • To agree group membership
  • To identify a wider reference group for consultation and comment
  • To determine and prioritise the tasks required
  • To draw up timetable and milestones
  • To monitor progress against timeline and be accountable for results
  • To produce a short report that will feed in to the overall RCN R&D Strategy
  • To identify the implications for the development and delivery of the future RCN Strategic Plan (2008-2013)

Actions

  1. Identify what is needed by RCN members/staff in relation to research knowledge use in policy and practice and knowledge dissemination
  2. Scope what research knowledge is currently used and disseminated by RCN staff/members and for what purposes
  3. Scope how this knowledge is currently used and disseminated
  4. Establish the capacity and capability of RCN members/staff in accessing and using research knowledge in policy and practice and identify development needs
  5. Determine how research knowledge use and dissemination priorities are currently set
  6. Map what is needed (1,3) against what is currently used and disseminated (2,4)
  7. Identify the differences
  8. Develop process for systematic identification of priorities and ways of using and disseminating the research knowledge required
  9. Propose how RCN members/staff can be helped to use research knowledge to develop policy and practice
