Baseline mapping of current RCN R&D activity

In order to develop a research strategy where the RCN is recognised as member led, coherent, strategic and relevant, it is important to do a baseline assessment of where we are now.

The project team, through an iterative process, piloted and refined a baseline mapping template (1) and invited stakeholders (2) to an internal workshop, which took place on 19 December 2006.

This baseline mapping exercise was used to inform the development of the strategy at the workshop on 15 February 2007. The results of the exercise are listed below, as appendices.

Appendix

  1. The baseline mapping template (MS Word, 62K) which was used went through several drafts during the mapping process, changing as we received stakeholder feedback. Attached here is the final version.
  2. We utilised the RCN Business Unit structure to assess which departments were definite stakeholders, which were probably stakeholders, and which were unlikely stakeholders. We then contacted each department to confirm our assumptions. Stakeholders who attended the workshop on 19 December, or provided written/oral responses, are detailed below (highlighted in blue):
