This Award, which will be given for the third time in 2009, will be granted to the most innovative doctoral thesis in the nursing disciplines, submitted to the Award Committee. Excellence in scholarship, innovation and the potential to influence health care policy or practice will be the main criteria for deciding the Award. To be eligible for the Award, applicants must:

  • be a member of the RCN Research Society
  • have been awarded a doctoral degree, during the period 01 September 2007 to 31 August 2008 (submit documentary confirmation of date degree awarded n.b. not graduation)
  • submit an extended abstract, maximum 1000 words by 30 September 2008 to akinsanyaaward@rcn.org.uk
  • must lodge a copy of the thesis with the RCN Steinberg Collection of Nursing Research, RCN Library (email Billie Joel, billie.joel@rcn.org.uk for more details)

The successful applicant will be supported in the dissemination of their work through a variety of media and will be awarded a free place at the RCN international nursing research conference in Cardiff, Wales in 2009. They will also receive a cash prize of £250.

Please note:  Members of the RCN Research Society Steering Committee, RCN staff supporting the work of the RCN Research Society or members of the Award Panel are not eligible to apply for the Award.
