About the award

  1. The RCN Research Society Marjorie Simpson New Researchers' award is an annual award available to new or inexperienced researchers, currently undertaking a postgraduate course of study leading to a higher degree (MSc, MPhil, PhD)
  2. The award will cover the cost of the conference fees, conference accommodation and up to £100 travel costs.
  3. To qualify for the award, an applicant must be a member of the Royal College of Nursing Research Society.
  4. Successful applicants will be required to submit a report of the annual international nursing research conference to the Research Society Steering Committee. This report may subsequently be submitted to Research Headlines and/or placed on the Research Society's website.

Applicants should submit the following details marked: "RCN Research Society Marjorie Simpson New Researchers' award" by 31 October 2009 to marjoriesimpsonaward@rcn.org.uk

  • A letter from their supervisor confirming that the applicant is a current student of the institution:
  • Applicants should complete the following in no more than 300 words. "I would like to attend the RCN Annual International Nursing Research Conference because …………".

Applicants will be advised of results by end of November 2009.

Criteria used to judge submissions

  1. Applicant must be a member of the Royal College of Nursing
  2. Applicant must be a member of the RCN Research Society
  3. Statement must be clearly expressed, concise and coherent (in an absolute maximum of 300 words)
  4. Applicant must make explicit what benefit s/he will gain from attending the conference
  5. All of the details requested have been supplied

ALL APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE there is an absolute maximum of 300 words. Reviewers will only receive the first 300 words of any statement.
