Poster and Paper of the Day Awards 2011

In 2011, for each day of the conference the scientific committee will award a prize for 'poster of the day' and 'paper of the day'. Each winner will receive a year's subscription to the Sage journal Journal of Research in Nursing.

Poster of the day prize

The poster of the day prize is voted for by all the RCN 2011 conference delegates, and is based on the content, interest and impact of the poster. Delegates will receive the daily nomination forms in their welcome packs as they arrive at the conference.

Paper of the day prize

These awards will be judged by RCN Research Society's Scientific Committee on the persuasiveness of written nominations received from concurrent session chairs. Chairs will be invited to nominate papers that they believe they will 'still be talking about in twelve months' time'.

1.1.1 The impact of an intervention for nurse prescribers on consultations to promote patient medicine-taking in diabetes: A mixed methods study
Sue Latter, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southampton, UK

Chair: Kate Seers
Chair's comments: "Really interesting paper about an educational intervention that promoted nurses' self efficacy to enable patients to say what their concerns were about taking medications. Very patient centred, and putting patients at the heart of the consultation."

Tuesday 17 May 2011

3.4.3 In the shadow of institutional structures:  Observations of assisted feeding
Bente Martinsen, Institute of Public Health, Department of Nursing Science,  Aarhus, Denmark

Chair: Julie MacInnes
Chair's comments: "Demonstrated the 'courage and tenacity' needed in nursing research, as discussed in today's keynote speech. Assisted feeding of vulnerable patients is an issue which crosses international boundaries. This paper demonstrated nursing still has a long way to go in terms of maintaining patient respect and dignity in some areas of care."

6.7.2 Narrating nursing: nurses reminiscences of professional experience.
Colin Jones, Liverpool John Moores University, Faculty of Health, UK

Chair: Caroline Bradbury-Jones
Chair's comments: "Because it was thought provoking and balanced with humour.  The presenter himself narrated well which was highly appropriate. The presentation stimulated discussion and I am inspired to read a little more about the issue of narrating in nursing"
