Mary Seacole awardees

The Mary Seacole Leadership and Development awards provide the opportunity to undertake a specific health care project, or other educational/development activity that benefits and improves the health outcomes of people from black and minority ethnic communities.

There are two award programmes:

  • The Mary Seacole Leadership Awards are up to £12,500 each and provide the opportunity to enhance effective leadership and communication skills.
  • The Mary Seacole Development Awards are up to £6,250 each and provide the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

RCN research conference

The RCN Research Society are proud to support each year the attendance at the RCN research conference of those awardees who are RCN members. For 2012 they are:

  • Sonia Wijesundare
  • Marsha Jones

Professor Laura Serrant-Green (Research Society Steering Committee member, member of the Mary Seacole Steering Group and a previous recipient of a Mary Seacole Leadership award) spoke on Tuesday about the award, the awardees, but also about the importance of the nursing/healthcare research contribution to the health needs of the BME community. She then issued a challenge to delegates in the room to apply for the award, or encourage someone they knew to apply. Download Laura's presentation (PDF, 2.6MB)
