About us

Research is every nurse's business, and the RCN Research Society aims to provide support for nurses who:

  • identify and prioritise research
  • disseminate research findings
  • supervise research
  • conduct research
  • critically appraise research reports
  • utilise research

Statement of aims

The concerns and functions of the RCN Research Society include:

  • promoting good practice in research
  • working alongside other RCN membership groups as appropriate in recognition that research underpins and cuts across all RCN membership activity
  • promoting a research culture and commitment to research
  • disseminating both research findings and new understanding about research methods
  • providing a forum for members to share experiences and learn from each other about:
    • appropriate research methods for different types of inquiry
    • appropriate research methods for different client groups
    • how research findings can be introduced into practice
  • providing a mechanism for networking amongst group members. This includes a doctoral student network, a clinical research nurses network, and our regional groups around the UK.

Networking

Networking is one of the most important features of the RCN Research Society, because the craft of research in nursing is still developing. Nursing research spans a continuum of research methods as befits a profession that is practiced in so many contexts and with so many different client groups.

We still have much to learn from each other, and therefore networking is a very important way of ensuring this. We offer:

  • the services of a professional adviser
  • a twice yearly newsletter
  • publications
  • annual conference
  • local networks
