Aims and Terms of Reference
Aims
The aims of the Research Society (East of England) are to encourage strong links between individual members living and working in the east of England and between the regional group and the national Research Society Steering Committee.
Remit
The RCN Research Society (East of England) exists as a regional sub-group of the RCN Research Society. It will:
- Promote and facilitate networking, collaboration and dissemination amongst nurses and allied professionals in the East of England.
- Act as a support and information resource for nurses and allied health professionals in the East of England.
- Influence policy development at local, national and international levels within and outside the RCN through the development and implementation of lobbying strategies.
- Promote research based practice and a research culture in nursing in the East of England.
- Lobby for further resources to support nursing research.
- Recruit members to the Research Society and to the Research Society (East of England).
- Promote collaboration with other nursing and interdisciplinary and interprofessional groups in the East of England.
- Hold at least four Steering Committee meetings and two open meetings (including an AGM) each year.
- Collaborate with and support the national Research Society Steering Committee and other regional groups.
- Generate and maintain a database of members in the East of England, identifying clinical and research expertise.
Membership
- The RCN Research Society (East of England) will be facilitated by a Steering Committee of elected and co-opted RCN members.
- Steering Committee officers will include Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer.
- Officers will be elected for a term of four years and can be re-elected for one further term of four years.
- The Chair will:
• Chair Steering Committee and other meetings;
• provide leadership to the Research Society (East of England);
• communicate with the national Steering Committee. - The Vice-Chair will deputise for the Chair when necessary.
- The Secretary will:
• provide administrative support to the Chair;
• prepare and circulate an agenda prior to meetings;
• record and circulate minutes;
• maintain an up-to-date database of members. - The Treasurer will:
• oversee financial matters and be responsible for accurate financial management;
• provide summary reports for each Steering Committee meeting and a full report for the AGM. - Membership of the Steering Committee will be reviewed at each AGM and elections held if necessary.
- Other members will be elected/co-opted to the Steering Committee at the discretion of the Steering Committee.
- The Steering Committee will be responsible to members of the RCN and accountable to the RCN Research Society.
- A meeting of the Steering Committee will be quorate if four Committee members, including either the Chair or the Vice-Chair, are present.
- Membership of the Research Society (East of England) will be open to all RCN members living or working in the East of England.
- All Steering Committee meetings are open to all RCN members.
