2009 annual update
During 2009 the Society in Scotland has continued to focus activity on research policy in Scotland. Members of the Committee have led development of a draft position paper with RCN Scotland which makes the case for nursing research and identifies priorities for lobbying. This process has brought together many of those with an interest in promoting and developing nursing research in Scotland. The paper will be finalised in November together with a plan of action.

2008 annual update
The Society in Scotland has been active on several fronts during 2008. Firstly the Steering Committee has welcomed two new members: Claire Chalmers (University of the West of Scotland) and May McCreaddie (University of Edinburgh). This brings the Committee back to a more optimal strength. The other Committee members are: Jo Corlett (Treasurer), Martyn Jones, Colin Macduff (Convenor), Lorraine Smith, and Julie Taylor.
Secondly on the 28th August 2008, the Society in Scotland co-hosted with RCN Scotland an event entitled "Shaping the RCN Scotland position on the future of the nursing contribution to health and social care research in Scotland". This very successfully brought together many of those with an interest in promoting and developing nursing research in Scotland. The main discussion points from the event, related recommendations and papers are collated in the attached document (PDF, 95K).
A Short Life Working Group is currently being convened to take this work forward over the next 12-18 months or so.
