Improving cultural competence and equity in the provision of healthcare to the Gypsy/Traveller community
- Event synopsis: This workshop is designed to achieve the following learning outcomes
To improve awareness of the specific health inequalities and health needs of Gypsies and Travellers
To meet with Gypsies and Travellers and learn first hand about their culture and their healthcare experiences
To understand the specific barriers for Gypsies and Travellers in accessing and using health services appropriately
To achieve a deeper understanding of prejudice, inequity, and institutionalised racism to learn how nurses can become role models in challenging discrimination and providing culturally competent care. - Speakers: Patrice van Cleemput, Gillian Francis, members of the Gypsy/Traveller community

Best Research for Best Health: Policy and Practice in Clinical Research Nursing
- Event synopsis: The commitment to innovation and to the promotion and conduct of research appears on the first page of the NHS Constitution. Research is now an NHS priority. For nurses, there are two key roles that of the clinical research nurse and nurse researcher. The event aims to provide an opportunity for critical debate, describe research nurse roles and current issues, provide information on the new research network structure and developments including a national coordinated framework to ensure an appropriate trained and managed workforce, finally the fringe will discuss opportunities for clinical nurses in research within the NHS.

Near misses and errors: improving practice through research and education
- Event synopsis: This joint RCN Research Society/Education Forum will explore the significant strides that have been made in improving patient safety, and this event will showcase some of the exciting work that is contributing to that improvement. Followingpresentations by experts we will engage delegates in discussing constructive ways to reduce medication errors and maximise patient safety. It is envisaged that participant will again take away leading edge research/practice from this event
