When someone asks your assistance to die

When it's our time to die, most of us would prefer to receive end of life care at home. Fewer than one in five people achieve this, and in the UK most die in hospital. The NHS End of Life Care Programme aims to extend palliative care so more people can die in their preferred place. There has also been a wider debate about assisted suicide on which the RCN consulted, leading to a change in its position to 'neutral'.

There are many difficult questions being asked of nurses in end of life care situations, so recently the RCN published guidance on responding to a request to hasten death. This event will raise awareness for practitioners and educators around the issues facing nurses and other health care workers in practice, the questions they may be asked and how legally and safely to respond.
