Weekly electronic bulletin - submission for inclusion
The weekly electronic bulletin is a short digest of all that is new in the world of nursing research and innovation. Of course it is only as comprehensive as the information we receive, and we welcome input from anyone who would like to impart information to a wider nursing R&I audience. Below you will find some general criteria to help you decide how to best submit your item. We hope you understand that we cannot guarantee to include every item of news that is submitted, particularly regarding potential conflicts of interest with the RCN, although we do our very best.
As a general rule, all items accepted for inclusion will be included in ONE issue of the e-bulletin; in addition, it will be placed in the Latest News section of our website for the entire time it is relevant. If you want your item listed in multiple issues of the e-bulletin, you may want to consider our advertising option.
The weekly electronic bulletin is separated into the following headings. We hope that whatever you are trying to disseminate, there will be a logical heading to place it. We are of course only human, and you may want to suggest an alternative heading. Whilst we cannot guarantee to comply with your choice, we can't consider it if you do not ask!
RCN news
This heading contains RCN news and information
RCN Research Society
This heading contains information about the RCN Research Society, including the annual international nursing research conference, awards, publications, local events, the Winifred Raphael Memorial Lecture (WRML), and Research Society involvement at RCN Congress.
Career development opportunities
This section, whilst not intending to be comprehensive, will give details of job opportunities, fellowships/scholarships and research-specific training opportunities. Occasionally, professional organizations and funding bodies request nominations for peer reviewers and membership of scientific boards, and these requests are listed in this section too.
- If you would like to publicize a job here, please see the criteria for promoting a job opportunity.
- If you would like to publicize a training opportunity here, please see the criteria for promoting a training opportunity.
Research funding
This section promotes funding opportunities of all descriptions. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Current research commissions
- Grants
- Projects
- Prizes
- Bursaries
- Travel Awards
- Seminars/Conferences
- General
- Small Scholarships/Fellowships
Research policy/practice
This section tends to provide information about policy and governance (including ethics) documents from the 4 countries of the UK. However, any work of strategic or practical importance to the nursing R&D community may be disseminated via here. For example, this section will also include information about user involvement, an area of growing importance in the research endeavour.
Consultation documents
This section predominantly gives information about consultations that the RCN has been invited to provide comments. However, this is not exclusive, and there may well be other consultations of relevance to the nursing research community which you would like to reach a wider audience.
Research networks
This section promotes Research Networks, be they overarching in outlook, focused on research methodology, or with a clinical focus or field of research . You can find examples of what they are in the Research Networks pages.
Research in progress
A classic example of an entry in this section would be the research team that is looking for evidence, and wants to search the so-called "grey literature"; research that is being conducted, and hasn't been reported in any of the usual dissemination channels. You may also like to know we have a specific section on academic institutes and their current research interests.
Knowledge Transfer - Finding the Evidence
"Standing on the shoulders of giants" is a phrase well known to researchers, and anyone embarking on a piece of research will want to know what has already been done. The most obvious starting point is to conduct a literature search, and full RCN members can get help with this. This section of the website provides a signposting service to various databases of completed research, including the recently launched NHS Evidence portal. If you wish to include an item here, please email Gabrielle Levy on gabrielle.levy@rcn.org.uk with the Subject Heading, “Weekly electronic bulletin: Knowledge Transfer - Finding the Evidence”
Knowledge Transfer - Practice Development
The utilisation of research is perhaps the most important part of the R&I process for nurses endeavouring to deliver evidence based practice. This field signposts visitors to organisations and databases which support knowledge utilisation.
Knowledge Transfer - Disseminating your research
This section is intended to help you disseminate your work to a wider audience, be that through submitting an abstract for a conference presentation, or an article for a journal.
- If you would like to publicize an open call for abstracts/papers here, please see the criteria for promoting a call for papers
Events
This section contains information about diary dates of interest to nurse researchers. These can be major international conferences down to local seminars and lectures.
- If you would like to publicize details of an event here, please see the criteria for promoting a diary date
