Immigration update for overseas students

Urgent information for overseas nurses who are subject to immigration control.

With effect from 28 April 2008, the Border and Immigration Agency Office in Croydon only, will pilot the collection of biometric data from all applicants applying for Leave to Remain in either a Marriage or Student visa category.

This will mean that all applicants for either of these visa types will be legally required to produce a "biometric sample", i.e a photograph (for facial recognition purposes) and their fingerprints will be taken.

The data collection process will be extended as of June 16, to include dependants including children aged below 18 years of age.

This  pilot  collection is considered the first stage in the process of introducing Identity cards - also known as -  "Biometric Residence Permits" -  for foreign nationals and will last for 3 months.
