Welcome to all student midwives

Published: 02 October 2012

Dear student midwife

Welcome to the RCN. If you are a new member – or if you have been with us a while – I hope you are settling in well and making the best use of the facilities we provide to support you as you go forward in your programme and career.

I am the Midwifery and Women’s Health Adviser here at the RCN. My role includes being responsible for influencing, developing, and supporting practice, in both midwifery and women’s health.

As an adviser, I communicate with members and key stakeholders to share and gather information, co-ordinate responses to consultations, develop policies, and comment on political and practice-related issue – all towards enhancing midwifery and women’s health practice UK-wide.

Midwifery is one of the most challenging and exhilarating health care career choices – it is exciting, demanding and extremely rewarding and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

Watch this space for further updates on midwifery at the RCN.

Best wishes, Carmel Bagness, RCN Midwifery & Women’s Health Adviser
