Giving a voice to retired members

RCN Council has decided to join the National Pensioners Convention (NPC). Up until now, the RCN has had an informal relationship with the NPC; becoming a member is the next step towards strengthening the voice of our retired members.

What does membership of the NPC mean?

Membership of the NPC means that the RCN can have up to four members on the NPC National Council. One of these members will also be able to take a seat on the NPC Executive Committee.

Members of the RCN who sit on the NPC will be appointed by a new RCN Retired Members Network and will report back to members of that network. There will be regular reports to Council on the work of the NPC.

How will the network link in with the work of the NPC?

The four members appointed to the NPC National Council will use the RCN Retired Members Network to inform the contribution they make to the NPC and will be the primary point of contact for the network initially.

They will be supported by staff in the RCN’s Employment Relations Department who will ensure the members of the NPC have the information they need.

How will the RCN Retired Members Network operate?

The modus operandi of the network will be agreed once it is up and running and the four NPC Council members are appointed. The RCN Retired Members Network will be a place for retired members to talk to one another and to influence the issues that affect them. As this is a new area of work for the RCN, there will be a period of time while the new network and our membership of the NPC beds in.

How can I join the network?
