VTE webinar

This is in support of the article VTE webinar, which appeared on page two of the 10 August 2011 issue of RCN Bulletin.

The second webinar on venous thromboembolism (VTE) is being held to highlight the contribution that nurses and nursing can make to reducing its incidence in health care.

The presenters will discuss the scale of the problem and the role of nursing in identification and reduction of risk to reduce the harm caused by VTE. The presenters are VTE Nurse Specialist Kevin Gilbride, from Whittington NHS Trust, and Vanessa Sweeney, Clinical Manager/Assistant Head of Nursing Trauma at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The RCN is working to reduce incidents of VTE as it causes approximately 25,000 deaths in hospitalised patients every year in the UK. VTE risk assessment and appropriate thromboprophylaxis can reduce this figure.

This is more than the combined total number of deaths from breast cancer, Aids and traffic accidents, and more than 25 times the number who die from MRSA.

The webinar is taking place on Thursday 22 September at 9.30am. To register interest, email  caroline.lecko@rcn.org.uk and registration and joining details will be sent nearer the time.
