Why Brian French won the members' award

In support of the article Brian bags Members’ Award, on page two of the 13 July 2011 issue of RCN Bulletin.

Brian French, the RCN's Conference and Events Manager, won the members' award at the recent RCN Staff Awards for Excellence.

Here why he won:

Last year Brian celebrated 30 years as a loyal member of RCN staff. Our activists jokingly refer to him as ‘Mr Congress’ as he has worked tirelessly to ensure this key event for our members runs smoothly. His nominators say they can see how much effort he puts in to make each Congress special to the members, that he is always visible, accessible and willing to assist members whenever needed. Brian takes great pleasure in introducing new technologies and ideas to all the events he manages and our members really appreciate his calm, reassuring presence and his humour which is always welcome. Brian has been nominated for the Members’ Award because of the significant contribution he has made to our organisation and our members over the years.

Senior Legal Officer Jonathan Green was the runner up. This is why:

Throughout his nominations for this award Jonathan is described as a gentleman. Positive, supportive, sensitive and dedicated, our members say he has gained their utmost trust. Jonathan has guided members through the labyrinth of the legal system while giving clear and concise advice while they go through the stress of preparing for hearings. One member explained that as a result of Jonathan’s thoroughness and punctuality when submitting paperwork, their case was brought forward because he was the only solicitor who had everything prepared. Subsequently, a difficult time for this member was concluded speedily. Overall Jonathan’s empathy, non-judgemental approach and warmth of character is what our members have appreciated the most. They say that they feel lucky and honoured to have him on their side.
