Which way forward?
It seems fitting that one of the final fringe events at Congress should focus on the future of the RCN.
How do we balance being a hard-hitting campaigning organisation with the need to influence policy? How do we stay as the voice of nursing? And do we need to change our ways of working to achieve our aims and strategic priorities?

Computerised patient records - what can they offer?
"Computerised patient information is going to be, like it or not," said Professor Dame June Clark.
Accepting the inevitable was one of the key messages to come out of this debate, along with how crucial it is for nurses to get involved and work with IT specialists, if they are to ensure that the right information is captured and quality data is produced. Read more on this debate
Voice at the top
"Never has it been more important to have nurses at a high level,” said Carol Wilson, who proposed this resolution.
Carol argued that nurses must fight for places at the top table and be able to influence at strategic level.
So, as Congress began with the call for action from the RCN's General Secretary, Congress closed with further debate on why now decisive action is needed. Read more on this debate
