2 Health care reform - how far, how fast?
Resolution submitted by the RCN East Dorset Branch
That this meeting of RCN Congress supports the need for faster, more rapid change in the NHS
Work led by the RCN Public Policy Committee.
The resolution urged support for more rapid change in the NHS with the proposer arguing that there had been 20 major structural changes in the NHS since 1974 and that each change needed to be properly implemented. Few delegates agreed completely, however, with some arguing that performance and morale tend to dip following a period of change. Examples of change that had been difficult included Agenda for Change and community matrons with delegates arguing the issue was about the amount of change rather than its pace. The resolution was overwhelmingly defeated and no further action was needed.
