People with dementia will often require hospital care due to illness, injury and surgery. This care is frequently criticised in the media with nurses often admitting that they know very little about how to care effectively for this group. They state that they have had little or no formal education in the area, and admit that they can find caring for people with dementia in acute settings challenging. As more and more people with dementia are admitted to acute hospital settings, the RCN has undertaken significant work in the area.

This event provides an opportunity to consider education and development in relation to dementia care.
