Any community service commissioned to provide care has to provide evidence of its quality and clinical effectiveness. Community nursing standards are constantly tested against schemes such as QUIP (quality, innovation, productivity and performance), CQC (Care Quality Commission) inspections and reviews. However, are these successful in measuring quality in the community? Nursing in the home does not always lend itself to indicators which are often ward based, and perhaps do not reflect the world of the home-based patient.
This session will examine what quality is and its importance to district nurses and their patients, plus it will take a look at an electronic-based system called Dominic – a tool specifically designed to measure quality and productivity in district nursing.
