Liver disease is now the fifth most common cause of death in the UK and is emerging as a major killer with its prevalence increasing every year. There are three major culprits that have led to this incredible rise; alcohol, viral hepatitis and obesity.

The session will discuss the RCN's Caring for people with liver disease: a competence framework for nursing – an essential document for all nurses whatever their clinical background and setting. This publication will help you to identify patients at risk of liver disease and help them to make informed choices through health promotion and education. You will also be provided with real life examples of how to use the framework.
