This seminar will explore current issues in nurse education from a historical perspective and will be chaired by Professor Martin Johnson (University of Salford).
The presenters are all experienced nurse educators who are members of the RCN History of Nursing Society. Dr Claire Chatterton (Chair of the RCN History of Nursing Society) will begin by talking about the importance of history to our understanding of today’s educational issues. Dianne Yarwood's contribution will be related to admission criteria (age and academic) and will draw upon her time at City University's St Bartholomew School of Nursing and Midwifery during which she was variously Project Leader for the admissions unit and then Director of Widening Participation. Christine Hallett (Professor of Nursing History at the University of Manchester) will then discuss Margaret Scott Wright, an early pioneer of university-based education, bringing in issues about the move of nursing into the higher education sector.
