The RCN Foundation bursary awards

The RCN Foundation bursary awards are awarded to individuals who wish to join the nursing profession, or expand their knowledge in the field.

RCN Foundation Worshipful Company of Needlemakers Educational Bursary

Kate Harper

Kate has been awarded funding to undertake a course in Principles of Renal Care.  Currently working as a Registered General Nurse, this course will help Kate to achieve her goal of becoming a Specialist Nurse in the Renal Department of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

The Marcia Mackie Fund Bursary

Sharon McCloskey

This funding will assist Sharon in evaluating the outcomes of step down care in the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice which she hopes will shape future direction for care and services.

The Kershaw Family Bursary

Jayne Parker

Jayne is being funded to top-up her nursing diploma to degree level by the Open University BSc (Hons) Nursing Practice course. Her previous involvement in the RCN Students Committee and South East Board have demonstrated her passion for leadership in the nursing industry.

Margaret Parkinson Scholarship Awards

Morwenna Breeze

Morwenna is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Adult Nursing at Kings College London while working as a Health Care Assistant at Trinity Hospice. Her first class honours degree in applied theatre sparked an interest in advocacy based work for people with severe learning disabilities.

Katie Borg

Katie graduated with a first class honours degree in Human Sciences from Oxford University, helping her to gain a stronger understanding of patient needs and experience in her role as a Clinical Support Worker. She is currently undertaking a Post-Graduate Diploma in Nursing at Southampton University.

Monica Baly Bursary

David Justham

David is being funded to help complete a PhD on nurse’s work with patients suffering from life threatening infection between 1929 and 1947, which will bring new understanding to the period before penicillin was available to the population.

The Rae Bequest Bursary

Yvonne Dunlop

Yvonne is being funded to undertake a Masterclass in Vestibular Rehabilitation. This course will enhance the skills provided in her role as a Brain Injury Nurse Specialist and enable her to treat clients through a range of different techniques.

RCN Foundation Professional Bursary Scheme

Quinten Clarkson

Quinten has been awarded funding to complete a Diploma of Foot Health which will help him to diagnose and treat foot health conditions in vulnerable people in his work as a Community Health Nurse.
Jasmine Stanhope. Jasmine is passionate about improving dementia care and is being funded to undertake a BSc in Dementia Studies at the University of Bedford.

Emily Wood

Emily is being funded to undertake research on whether Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EDMR) has the potential to be a new treatment for long term depression.

Rosie Hanna

Rosie has been awarded a bursary to assist her to complete a Masters in Medical Law at Northumbria University and become more involved in the child protection and litigation aspects of the Accident and Emergency Department. 

Mair Scholarship

Julian Adkins

Julian is being funded to undertake a postgraduate diploma training course in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to enhance his current role as an Occupational Health Nurse.
