Charles Conibear - RCN Steward of the Year
Attending Congress can bring a range of benefits for all members, but activists especially can take so much back from the whole experience.
Sunday was a special day for Charles Conibear from the Devon Branch, as he was presented with the RCN Steward of the Year Award, but he has really enjoyed the whole week.
He is planning on taking a lot back to his workplace following his week in Liverpool. “I’ve picked up lots of leaflets, on payscales and whistleblowing, for example. I’m also going to use the videos I’ve seen for my Nurses’ Day events.”
There’s been a lot going on but Charles singled out a diversity event as his favourite outside the debating hall this week. “I attended a really interesting event which looked at our unconscious bias. It was easy to understand but opened our minds to unintentional thoughts.”
“Activists who have yet to experience Congress are missing out on so much,” he said. “I’ve really enjoyed the networking and the opportunity to speak to people you’d never normally meet. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what your background is. Everyone feels comfortable here, so think about attending next year.”
