HCAs encouraged to embrace the whole Congress experience

Health care assistant and health practitioner members were encouraged to throw themselves into the whole Congress experience today.

Speaking at the welcome programme for health care assistants (HCAs), Karen Dutton, from the UK Learning Representatives Committee, told members that there is much going on at Congress, outside their specific programme, which should be embraced.

"I want to encourage HCA members to take the opportunity to network and build up their confidence," she said. "It's time for the HCA voice to be heard. I want HCAs to know that they are a valued, integral part of the nursing team. There are many development opportunities available here this week, but this is also their time to speak out. I don't want to hear HCAs describing themselves as 'only a HCA' because without you and your competences, registered nurses are not able to delegate care."
