Advertising platforms to showcase your services and innovations
The RCN website
The RCN is the voice of nursing across the UK and has more than 410, 000 members. Increasing numbers of our membership are using the RCN website as their primary educational and informative tool, meaning it is the perfect platform to reach the widest nursing audience.
Our website plays a crucial role in stimulating and engaging our membership, to help shape health care policy for the benefit of the nursing team and patients.
Use the RCN website to showcase your innovative products and services and influence those at the heart of patient care.
Advertising on the RCN website can help raise your profile among two thirds of the UK's nursing team; perhaps you are launching a new product, or have valuable online learning resources and support services to share. More information can be found via our web specification document (PDF 74.5 KB) [how to access PDF files]
Plans to launch our new website have regretfully been temporarily put on hold. We hope to have a clearer timeframe available during the course of 2013.
Relevant statistics from the current website
On average each month:

RCN Students magazine
If you are a recruiter, a university, or organisation offering international training placements, students may be a key target audience. The magazine RCN Students is published twice a year and is a mix of student news, views advice and features. We now offer organisations the opportunity to reach up to 47,000 nursing and midwifery students through just one advert. Newly qualified students resource booklet
In Autumn 2013, the RCN will launch a handbook dedicated to nursing and midwifery students in their final year of study and soon to qualify.
Transitioning from a nursing student to a newly-registered nurse can be challenging. The RCN has developed a number of resources and services which can support students through this sometimes difficult and uncertain time.
The handbook will be formatted as an A5 ring binder. Newly-qualified nurses will collect a series of information cards, disseminated in relevant chapters, over the course of 12 months in order to complete the handbook. Chapters will be sent out in twos and threes, over the course of the year, to all newly-registered nurses who remain in RCN membership.
The aim is to develop a product which showcases the supportive materials and services which newly-registered nurses can draw on as part of their RCN membership and combine it with relevant workplace and career focussed guidance.
Content will include practical interview advice, career pathways, coping strategies, the importance of dignity and compassion, leadership and building a career portfolio.
Overarching sponsorship has been secured for the handbook and its dissemination.
However there will be advertising opportunities for up to three clients within each chapter.
Some of the most appropriate and relevant chapters for advertisers may include:
Chapter 5: Employment and career planning
- Career frameworks and pathways.
- Working overseas.
- The NHS and independent sector.
- Midwifery as a career.
- Recognising your learning style/ self awareness.
- Experiences from newly registered nurses.
Chapter 9: Leadership
- Assertiveness.
- Accountability and delegation.
Chapter 10: Education and training
- Your portfolio.
- Continuing professional development.
- Quality and the Principles of Nursing Practice.
- Nursing models; care planning.

'Essentials for Nursing' crib cards
These credit card sized guidelines (375KB) [how to access PDF files]. are one of the RCN’s most valuable and well received recruitment incentives.
The crib cards are disseminated at our Autumn and Spring student recruitment events to those student nurses and midwives who become RCN members for the first time.
Each card details key clinical references, commonly used in the workplace by health care professionals. The cards fit perfectly in a tunic pocket and can provide a vital reference point whilst in the workplace.
In July 2013, the print run of the pocket guide will be extended to 32,000 copies to facilitate dissemination at all student and health care assistant recruitment events.
To take into consideration the broader audience, card content is being revised. This year some of the new clinical areas will include:
- emergency diabetes
- learning disabilities
- hand washing
- diarrhoea guidance
- The Principles of Nursing Practice.
Sponsorship is being actively sought until the start of June with opportunities ranging from between £1,500 and £2,500 + VAT.
