RCN projects
- Dignity in dementia; transforming general hospital care
The RCN is leading a project to help improve the care of people with dementia in acute care. The project is supported by the Department of Health and is being undertaken in collaboration with other royal colleges and voluntary sector organisations. A number of surveys were conducted during 2010/11 among practitioners, patients and carers. The findings will now be used to inform the next phase of the project from September 2011 which will predominantly focus on the development and dissemination of educational resources and guidance as well as the promotion of innovative solutions based on evidence and best practice, which can be used and accessed by a range of professionals. We have a range of sponsorship opportunities linked to our 'Wipe it out' campaign. Wipe it out was launched in 2005 to support RCN members' contributions in reducing health care associated infections (HCAIs) particularly MRSA, and to act as a focal point for political lobbying on related issues. Previous collaborations
Nutrition Now
In partnership with Abbott Nutrition, the RCN launched the Nutrition Now campaign in 2007 to raise the standards of nutrition and hydration in hospital and community settings. An extensive range of practical tools and educational resources were developed and disseminated through a UK-wide programme of educational workshops across all health care settings.
In 2010 the campaign went on to win the Best Professional Education Programme category at the Communiqué Awards where it was described by the judges as "Great partnership work, well-rounded and implemented on an impressive scale”.
Dignity: at the heart of everything we do
While dignity is clearly a vital component of patient care, the RCN was concerned that it was beginning to be lost. This is why the RCN Dignity campaign was launched in partnership with Smith and Nephew in 2008. The campaign provided support and direction to the UK’s nursing workforce in delivering quality and dignified care to patients and clients of any status in every setting.
