RCN and Cook Medical collaborate to support imaging nurse education

The RCN Imaging Forum roadshows have been supported by Cook Medical during the course of the past 12 months. The series of innovative regional events have been aimed at registered nurses working in all areas of imaging and designed to support health professional education and better patient outcomes.

What has been the reach and impact?

The events have been delivered in Cardiff, Sunderland, London and Birmingham and attended by over 200 delegates; this is a third of the entire RCN Imaging Nursing Forum.

They have enabled imaging specialists to leave better prepared and informed of changes and developments in current practice.

Speaking on the collaboration between Cook Medical and the RCN, Declan Dunphy, Regional Manager, Peripheral Intervention, Cook Medical, said:

“Cook Medical is delighted to be partnering with the Royal College of Nursing in this innovative and unique accredited continuing professional education programme. Cook prides itself on its commitment to supporting those working in industry to access high quality educational opportunities. We are particularly pleased on this occasion to have the opportunity to support those nurses working in all aspects of imaging nursing, who are responding on a daily basis to the challenges and developments in imaging nursing.”

Following attendance at one of the regional events, Rita Ling, Radiology Sister, St Georges Hospital said of the study days:

“It is good to see so many nurses in one forum learning from each other and sharing information which can be applied in their departments. I would highly recommend the continuation of these study days.”

Speaking on the collaboration the Chairperson of the RCN Imaging Forum, Maggie Williams, said:

“The RCN has greatly valued the support of Cook in launching the series of roadshows. The forum was particularly pleased to be able to take the roadshows to the regions. This has enabled networking with members who have previously been unable to attend national days.  We look forward to exploring the potential for future collaborations, which will support the continuing professional development of imaging nurses.”

Why was this format so successful?

The success of the imaging workshops was dependent on a collaborative approach by the RCN and Cook Medical, ensuring the programme addressed both current work place challenges and new developments in imaging nursing. By working together, we have delivered a far reaching and influential educational programme for imaging nurse specialists.

How your organisation can collaborate with the RCN

Regional workshops now commonly form part of RCN projects and are proving to be a successful way of engaging with our membership on a regional level. We can secure local speakers who are experts in their field and knowledgeable of the specific learning needs of the region.

Delegates value the choice of several workshop dates and in the current climate, favour the lower delegate rates and opportunity to reduce the cost of travel and need for overnight stays.

Our portfolio of opportunities are regularly changing. A variety of collaborative projects, including workshops, will become available during the oncoming months, across a variety of nursing specialisms.

If those currently listed through long term partnerships do not align with your business needs, please contact us to see if new opportunities are available. We would be delighted to discuss mutually beneficial ways of working.
