The RCN joins forces with UKONS to improve triage services for paediatric oncology patients
The project follows on from a toolkit which was published in 2010 for adult oncology patients. The toolkit detailed the appropriate triage assessments for all patients who contacted 24-hour helplines for advice; it helped initiate early treatment for life-threatening oncological emergencies.
Furthermore, the toolkit helped identify those patients that could be safely managed in the community, by either GP referral or regular monitoring and thereby reducing the need for hospital admissions.
As a proven model of best practice in the field and due to increasing numbers of children and young people receiving cancer treatments in the UK, the RCN will launch a paediatric version of the toolkit later this year.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get involved and support this important piece of work.
