What are the aims?
To provide attendees with the basic principles of managing the care of a person with diabetes.
To give attendees an overview of:
- what diabetes is
- its complications
- medication and treatment
- weight management
- food and diabetes
- monitoring and the impact of diabetes.
The course can be tailored to focus on particular aspects of diabetes, for example medication and treatment for care home staff, or the impact of diabetes for occupational health nurses.
Who is the training for?
- health care professionals without specialist knowledge of diabetes, for example practice nurses or occupational health nurses
- care home managers or health care assistants
- people who work with people with diabetes.
Why is this important?
As diabetes is on the increase, even more of us are coming into contact with people who have the condition. It is important to understand the complexities relating to lifestyle that a person with diabetes faces each day. This course will give attendees knowledge and confidence when working with people with diabetes. Diabetes UK’s experience and expertise ensure that those attending the course receive the most up-to-date and comprehensive information available.
Where does the training take place?
We want to be as flexible as possible to suit your needs. Sometimes it isn’t practical to take employees out of the workplace for a day, so we can bring the training to you. All you need is a suitable room to hold the training in. There are also off-site open sessions available to all.
