Dementia leaflet
Angela Rippon speaks to The Daily Mail about her experience of seeing healthcare staff struggling to cope with her mother who suffers from dementia She welcomes a new leaflet launched by Alzheimer’s Society supported by the RCN, to help hospital staff improve care to people with dementia. The ‘This is me’ leaflet is filled out by the patient’s carer or relative to provide basic details such as name and address, as well as information about who knows them best, their hobbies, things that worry them and the state of their sight and hearing.
Arthritis treatment delay concern
The Commons Public Accounts Committee has reported that there has been no improvement since 2003 in the time it takes to diagnose and offer treatment to somebody with rheumatoid arthritis. Delays in accessing treatment can make disability worse and cause damage to a patient's heart and lungs.
MPs call for funding to be cut for alternative treatments
Patients should no longer get homeopathic treatment on the NHS because it is little better than 'active deception', according The Commons and Science and Technology Committee. They said there was no evidence the remedies work and dismissed them as 'sugar pills' which should not carry medical claims.
