Are you paying for PVG training in Scotland?

Activists in Scotland are being asked to advise the RCN if their NHS board is considering asking staff to pay for their Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Act training.

“The RCN does not believe individuals should be paying for their own training on the PVG Act,” said RCN Scotland Director, Theresa Fyffe. “All nurses and health care assistants have to understand the PVG scheme to ensure they are compliant with the new law in the workplace. What’s more, at a time when pay is frozen and the cost of living is increasing rapidly, our members shouldn’t have to face yet another bill.”

NHS employers have already taken the unilateral decision to make employees pay for their own PVG checks. This decision was not taken in partnership and, as part of Joint Staff Side, the RCN is lobbying for this to be reversed. If your NHS board is thinking of charging for PVG Act training, or has already done so, tell the RCN so we can lobby for change. Email rachel.cackett@rcn.org.uk.
