Free training for activists on HCA resource

A new webinar is now available to help activists explore the RCN’s new web-based resource, First steps for health care assistants. This is especially relevant to learning representatives who want to discover the range of multimedia used, understand how to use the traffic lights to note progress and discuss how the resource could be useful to others in their organisation.

The webinar takes place between 11am and noon on Tuesday 28 June, Tuesday 27 September and Tuesday 8 November. All you need is a telephone and a computer with internet access in a quiet room. To register, choose your preferred date and email emily.spencer-rigby@rcn.org.uk

What is the First steps resource?

First steps for health care assistants is a web-based, interactive resource that will support health care assistants, employers and trainers with their induction programmes.

The learning sessions align with the NHS knowledge and skills framework and there are printable assessments that cover the national occupational standards relevant to those working at level two of the career framework.

Work-based case studies and scenarios covering communication skills, clinical skills, health and safety, personal development and equality are included in this new resource which uses animations, slide shows, audio clips and clear text.

Prize draw

Now is a great time to take a look as everyone who completes the online feedback survey on the resource in June will be entered into a prize draw to win £50 in high street shopping vouchers. Visit www.rcn.org.uk/hcafirststeps
