Bedfordshire and Luton Partnership NHS Trust enjoyed a visit from Dr Peter Carter, Chief Executive of the RCN last week. Dr Carter, who himself is a trained psychiatric nurse and former chief executive of a mental health NHS Trust, gave a presentation to RCN members on the current financial situation and the challenges faced by today's nurses and health care workers.

Activists and members took part in an 'open forum' and discussed a wide range of issues including the imminent merger of the Bedfordshire and Luton Partnership NHS Trust with South Essex Partnership Foundation Trust, HCA membership of the RCN and innovations in mental health.

Dr Carter said,"It was great to meet front line staff and care support workers and to hear how members are responding to the demands they face. I very much welcomed the opportunity to share how the RCN can support members and help shape health policy through these tough economic times."

Dr Carter took the opportunity to visit the new recently modernised Weller Wing acute care unit along with Council representatives, Carol Evans and Anne Wells.
