London steward leads on security training for NHS

Healthcare staff can be on the frontline when it comes to potential acts of terrorism, and one London steward is helping them prepare.

Marino Latour, an RCN steward and active member of the Inner North West London Branch has been accredited by the Department of Health, in partnership with the Home Office, as a trainer on the Government’s Prevent strategy in healthcare settings, known as HealthWRAP. HealthWRAP (Working to Raise Awareness of Prevent) aims to help healthcare staff identify and support people who may be vulnerable to being radicalised.

The Department of Health is providing guidance and a toolkit for frontline workers called ‘ Building Partnerships, Staying Safe.` The  training has been described as “the only long term solution” for increasing safety and averting actions which could be linked to  terrorism.
