South Eastern Branch AGM

19 September, 12 noon, Main lecture theatre, Ulster Hospital

This past year has yet again been a fulfilling and busy year for the South Eastern Branch.

The branch executive committee has arranged and participated in a number of events.   These include information stands at both the Ulster and Lagan Valley hospitals and walkabouts at various other sites throughout the South Eastern Trust. The branch has facilitated a number of pension and general financial planning seminars at venues across the branch areas in association with Lighthouse Financial.  Turn-out at these seminars has been good.  In the independent sector, branch activists have visited many nursing homes to promote the RCN’s work on the Union Learning initiative with particular emphasis on supporting HCA members. The branch also plays an active part in South Eastern Trust corporate induction events.

Three members, Joanne Stevenson, Sindy King and Sarah Blakely represented the branch at RCN Congress in Harrogate in May.

It was a very successful year for the Branch at RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards. Angela Patterson, Continence Service Manager at Bangor Hospital won the Patients Choice Award; Mary Jordan, Team co-ordinator at Stewartstown Road Health Centre was the winner of the Team Manager Award and Helen Johnson,
who runs a travel clinic at Lisburn Health Centre was runner up in the Public Health Award.

Finally, Joanne Stevenson and Mary Walker have represented Northern Ireland at national level within the RCN as part of the Pay and Conditions group whilst Robert Moore has served with distinction on the UK Safety Reps Committee as well as the RCN Northern Ireland Board alongside Ann Scott.
