South Western branch AGM
10 September, 7pm
Mahon’s Hotel, Irvinestown, County Fermanagh BT94 1GS
Over the past year the South Western Branch has met on a regular basis at venues in a central location between Omagh and Enniskillen. The branch held pension seminars at Tyrone County and Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospitals and hosted several RCN information stands in both Enniskillen and Omagh. Fundamentals of Care seminars for HCAs were also well attended in the branch area.
RCN activists, through their efforts both in hospital and in the private sector have been successful in recruiting new members for the RCN and in particular would like to see more HCAs joining.
Branch members, Kathryn Gault, Patricia Burns and John Boyle attended RCN Congress in Harrogate. John Boyle received the accolade of UK Steward of the year, which was a marvellous achievement and recognition of his long and beneficial service to the South Western branch. The branch then hosted a celebratory dinner in his honour to congratulate him and wish him well in his retirement.
Siobhan MacNeill from the Erne Hospital was one of the finalists in the RCN Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year Awards 2012, and once again the branch members are very proud of her achievement.
This year has been a significant year in the life of RCN members in the South Western Branch as we have seen the opening of the new South West Acute Hospital. Staffside reps have worked particularly hard over this period supporting staff in this challenging transition. The staff of the Erne were extremely grateful and would like to recognise the support of their nursing colleagues from Tyrone County Hospital, who all pulled together on the day of the move which proved to be a huge success for all involved.
