Have your say on new patient rights law

Published: 27 November 2008

The Scottish Government recently started consulting on the creation of a new Patients' Rights Bill for NHS patients in Scotland. The implications of the current proposals are wide ranging, and may impact on your day to day work, and the expectations patients and families may have of you.

The law is still in the early stages of development. However, we believe this will be an important piece of legislation, and want to ensure that your views, concerns, and suggestions are reflected as the Bill is developed over the next year.

We are interested in hearing from all RCN members. Please note however, that if passed, this legislation will only apply in Scotland.

How can I get involved?

Consulation document:

The Government has released a 46 page consultation document inviting feedback on the current proposals. To help you feed back, we have put together a short summary with some questions to help your thinking. For a copy of the summary document, or to have your views contribute to RCN Scotland's response, please contact Rebekah Male:

All comments on the consultation document need to reach Rebekah Male at the above address by 22 December 2008.

Discussion Group:

It is expected that developing the Bill will take some months. To help you stay informed, RCN Scotland are starting a small discussion group for RCN members interested in hearing more about the proposals and contributing to the debate as it continues. Contact will primarily be via email.
