Organisations across Scotland join together to campaign for health visiting
Published: 13 May 2013
The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland is joining together with organisation, including Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Parenting Across Scotland, Children in Scotland and the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland, to campaign for tougher legislation to enshrine Scotland’s commitment to health visiting in law.
The campaign – Health Visitors for Scotland: Scotland deserves health visitors – is being launched in May. It’s asking for the Children and Young People (Scotland) Bill, which is currently going through the Scottish Parliament, to be strengthened to include:
- An explicit commitment, in associated regulation, that the Named Person (following on from maternity services) for under 5s is a health visitor, in line with the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) framework
- A new statutory entitlement to universal services from health visiting teams for all under-fives.
