Stirling nurse wins Nursing Standard award
Published: 13 March 2013
Congratulations to Shirley Law, Director of Practice Development at the Dementia Services Development Centre at the University of Stirling, who last night won Nursing Standard’s Mental Health Award at the Nursing Standard awards ceremony in London.
Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Director Theresa Fyffe said: “I’m delighted Shirley has won this prestigious award for her groundbreaking work. The locally-run workshops she set up for those caring for people with dementia have already given more than 600 carers the knowledge and confidence they need to be able to look after their loved ones at home. The judges of the Mental Health award obviously recognised the importance of the work that Shirley has done in developing this vital service within the local community.”
Nursing Standard’s editor in chief Jean Gray added: ‘All too often those caring for people with dementia feel they are left to cope alone, with little or no support. Shirley has worked tirelessly to help overcome this isolation, changing hundreds of lives for the better. We are delighted to recognise her pioneering work with this year’s mental health nursing award.’
