Donna wins top award

RCN member Donna Hogan from Ashford in Kent, has won a major regional nursing award.

Martin Bailey and Donna HoganDonna received the South East Region Adult Learners Award from the Learning Skills Council.  She now works as a district nurse at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford after completing a Nursing Diploma at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Donna, who was nominated by her tutor, Martin Bailey, a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Sciences and Nursing Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, received the award for outstanding achievement in her field of study.  She accepted the award from Sky News' top sports presenter, Jacqui Beltrao.

Donna said: "I am surprised and delighted to win this award. I am a single parent and found my course at the University hard work, but ultimately, I absolutely loved it. My 17 year old son, Michael, is very proud of me and we have organised a holiday in Dubai to celebrate. I would also like to thank the staff at Canterbury Christ Church for their dedication and support and for helping to ensure that my dream career is now a reality."

Senior Lecturer, Martin Bailey, said: "This is a fantastic achievement from an outstanding student. On behalf of the University's Department of Nursing and Applied Clinical Studies, I would like to offer Donna many congratulations for her success."
