First time to Congress? The South East region can help!

Published: 22 January 2013

Never been to Congress?? Read on!

If you have always wanted to go to Congress but haven’t yet done so then we might be able to help.

The South East region has a pot of money to offer as discretionary funding and you could be awarded up to £350 towards attending Congress.

What’s the catch? Well if you are chosen and not already an active branch member then you will be expected to visit your branch prior to Congress to introduce yourself, and to attend afterwards to describe your experience. But that isn’t a catch it will be fun!

Patricia Marquis, South East Regional Director, said: “Congress is an experience all RCN members should have, and we’re happy to be able to offer some financial help for this.”

The grant can be used for accommodation and travel in accordance with the RCN’s expenses policy . You will be expected to attend for a minimum of two full days. Please make sure you can take the time off before applying.

How to Apply

There will not be enough funding to support everyone. Funding will be awarded principally to those applicants who’s application impresses the panel. If you are interested in applying please send an email to michael.reilly@rcn.org.uk  with the following information:

In no more than 300 words please outline why you believe you should be eligible for financial support along with:

We need this email by 10th February and aim to notify those chosen by 18 February.

What is Congress?

Congress is the RCN’s major annual debating forum. It provides RCN members with an  opportunity to comment upon and influence RCN Council policy, and to help inform the RCN’s work for the coming year.

RCN members engage in key debates around nursing practice, public health, employment issues, the workings of the RCN and other relevant topics. Issues debated at Congress frequently make the headlines – it’s an opportunity for the world to listen to the voice of nursing.

Running alongside the business of Congress is a large programme of professional, educational and social events. Plus the UK’s largest exhibition of nursing products and services also takes place during the week. Congress is the perfect opportunity to network, meet like-minded colleagues and learn about latest developments in nursing.

Congress 2013 is in Liverpool from 21 to 25 April.
