RCN releases results of Jersey members' pay offer vote
Published: 11 April 2013
The Royal College of Nursing on Jersey recently asked all of its members on the island to vote on whether to accept or reject the current pay offer from Jersey HSSD.
The results came in yesterday, with a turnout of 44 per cent. Of those who responded, we could only count the views of members employed by Jersey HSSD. Of these, the results were as follows:
- 48 per cent voted to ACCEPT the offer
- 52 percent voted to REJECT the offer.
Overall (including votes from members not working for Jersey HSSD), the result was the same.
The RCN is now urging members to attend a branch meeting on 18 April to discuss this result and come to a decision.
Di Francis, RCN Officer for Jersey, said: “The vote is so close, and the turnout was not high, which means that at present we don’t believe we have a clear mandate either to accept or reject the offer.
"Because of this lack of clarity around the vote, we urge as many members as possible to attend our branch meeting on 18 April to make their voices heard.
"We also want to thank our members for bearing with us during these protracted negotiations. We understand that for them, every month that goes by without a conclusion is another month without any increase in pay. We do feel, however, that we have turned a corner in our negotiations compared to the offer we started with.”
